My Approach to Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy can be so powerful because it provides a safe space, and the skillful means, to see your life more clearly. As your therapist, I can help you turn towards the aspects of your life that need more attention and explore the roots of your troubles. We can find out together what you truly need to heal emotional wounds, develop a grounded, resilient self and engage in healthy relationships.
Here are some characteristics of my approach to psychotherapy:
Offering brief and in-depth therapy – I enjoy helping you with deep, inner exploration for personal growth as well as with fast symptom relief.
Working collaboratively – I am an engaging and interactive therapist. I believe in the incredible power of careful, compassionate listening. I love to collaborate, share insights, teach new skills and help you understand the interplay between your thoughts, feelings and your body’s nervous system.
Honoring your resourceful self – Starting with accessing strengths and resources that you already have, I help you develop awareness and skills that you need to shift painful patterns and ineffective ways of relating to yourself and the world.
Cultivating depth and presence – Much can be gained by exploring your past. But to make your insights useful, you need to have a clear sense of how the past is affecting you in your present life. Drawn from ancient Buddhist traditions and with overwhelming support from recent neuroscience, I use mindfulness techniques to help you focus your attention on your present moment experience as you talk about your life.
Working with you as a whole person – My approach to Somatic Psychotherapy takes into account that the mind and body are inseparable. One cannot be attended to without attention to the other. With this in mind, I work with your emotional and somatic responses as a way to offer a balanced and safe approach towards healing.
I welcome working with all aspects of your experience – Sessions may include your thoughts, feelings, inner sensations, key memories, imagination, dreams, hidden personality aspects. I can help you with pragmatic problem solving as well as addressing spiritual and existential concerns. We can address together whatever you choose to bring to therapy.
